My Chemical Romance’s drum line keeps Spinal Tapping itself into metaphorical green globules. Why, just a few months back, skinsman Michael Pedicone - the third one they’ve had - was evicted from the band over some alleged thievery. What terrible percussive luck. “Yeah!” laughs lead guitarist Ray Toro. “You know, honestly, it was one of the weirdest times we’ve gone through. We kind of had an idea of what he was up to probably a couple of weeks. The problem was, it was right before we were leaving for Reading and Leeds festivals. We were in a situation where we kind of had to suck it up and deal with what we knew was going on. We had to continue going through it because we had to play Reading and Leeds!”
“excuse me,” he says, before disappearing into a muffled aside. It sounds like someone is telling him not to do something. I vaguely hear Ray snort bemusedly. “Sorry about that,” he says, coming back on the line. “So we had to suck it up, knowing what was going on behind the scenes, ‘cause the last thing we wanted to do was to go to these giant shows trying to find a new drummer, and -”  ”Hey, sorry, Toby, sorry to interrupt,” says Ray’s British PR hound. “Ehm, the band actually made a statement when Mike was let go that they weren’t going to comment on it any further. So, ehm, maybe you should move on. ” Ray ignores him entirely. “You know what, the fact of the matter is, he was up to no good and the band had to suffer through it - for our fans. We wanted to make sure we could play to the best of our ability. After Reading and Leeds, he went back to his bad business, and we parted ways, so… it was hard. I mean, it seems like we had a bad run of luck with that, but we keep persevering. Things like that, I feel bring the band closer. It proves over and over again who the core of My Chemical Romance is, and who it always will be. We’ve been really lucky to have James Dewees with us for a while now, and we can’t say a bad thing about the guy. I think we really know who our family is and who we can trust. (In a statement, Michael claimed he’d no intention of profiting from his actions and had been trying to make a crew member seem incompetent. “It was a tremendous mistake, and it’s one I’ll regret for years to come.”). Replacement Jarrod Alexander will presumably still be in the band by the time they get to Australia this summer as part of the Big Day Out. He’s a lesson to all musos: use the internet to get hired by a huge act. “He got suggested through a friend of ours and I looked up some stuff of him on YouTube,” Ray says. “I was blown away by his playing. I saw a video of him playing to about 30 people, and he was playing his heart out. He’s still tied up with other bands, though, so just to put it out there: we don’t have a permanent drummer at all. I honestly don’t feel like we ever will have a permanent drummer.” The New Jersey group are touring their 2010 record, Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys. For the next one, I suggest they extract the utmost piss and lay it down, without any drums at all. Ray loves it. “You know, I actually might suggest it to the guys when I see ‘em later on today?

I love the way this band doesn’t tend to shit-talk. They give ~background information on ‘bad business.’
Lmao @ the PR guy actually getting on the phone. Lmao again @ Ray completely ignoring him.

Ray Toro let me love you
